Cosmic Child and the Furthest Star
Desember 26, 2025—
Cosmic child was roaming alone around the vast universe. The galaxy was her playground. At one time, she stumbled upon a floating ocean. At the other times, she was stranded on a planet after planet. She was never lonely because she told herself stories.
Her tales echoed in the vacuum space. No one could hear her. After a long time, she grew tired of weaving tales to emptiness. It was a futile act. Slowly, her sparks were faded. She considered to burry her fondness. Perhaps giving up was the best option. Despair made her floating aimlessly until she found herself arriving in the corner of the universe. A faraway galaxy. The resident of the faraway galaxy welcomed her because it had been a while since they had a guest.
“Hello cosmic child. How far have you come here,” the furthest star welcomed her. It was radiating warm blue light.
“Why do you keep shining even though your light won’t even reach anywhere?”
The furthest star was laughing. “We just met and you already ask such question. It is my job to shine. Maybe it will reach people on some faraway planets thousand years later. Maybe it will not reach anywere. Now, it is my turn to throw a question. Do you have a dream?”
“I have a dream, Star. Then, I realize some dreams are meant to be burried. But, burrying a dream feels like burrying a body and putting a tomb above it.”
“Would you mind to share your dream?” The star asked gently.
“For my stories to be heard. What’s yours?”
“For my shines to reach creatures on a planet called earth.”
“You think that is possible?” The cosmic child was frowning.
“Not all people dream about possibility, dear. Some people dream about the impossible.”
“You don’t make any sense. I don’t think my stories could be heard by anyone.”
“Well. Some stories are not mean to be heard. Some writings are not meant to be read. Some songs are not meant to be listened. Some poetries are not meant to be recited. Some lights are not meant to be seen.” The furthest star sighed while telling the truth, then it asked. “But, doesn’t mean they stop what they are doing?”
“It is vain. Useless,” the cosmic child said bitterly.
“The world is indeed cruel and cold. Yet, every small effort will bloom in the right time. Nothing is vain in the world, dear. Anything happened in the right moment.”
The cosmic child blinked her mismatch eyes. “So, should I keep telling stories?”
“Of course, dear.”
Cosmic child still doubted it yet she smiled. “Your light is so warm, Star. I have seen you. Your dream might come true. Myself was stranded on earth once. You should consider me as one of the earth’s creature.”
The furthest star was beaming. Its shine was bright and blinding. The light was radiating joy. The star asked cosmic child to dance around the galaxy. Cosmic child accepted the invitation. The other brighter stars, unknown planets, and homeless moons were infected by the blissfulness.
The corner of the universe was celebrating. Cosmic child chuckled while dancing. It was one of the cherished moments in her life. In the end, life could give you some sweet delight and perhaps burried dreams could spark again.
